Pass it on – How to Put Those E-mail Newsletters You Get to Good Use

The Internet and access to so much information can become overwhelming and addictive. You get 10 or 20 newsletters that you don’t even read any more.

Before you cancel them all, here’s a thought. Before email, we used to snip articles out of the newspaper and mail them to key clients and potential clients. Very time consuming. So we stopped doing it.

But it’s essential to developing good relationships in business that we stay in touch and that we do this in a useful and meaningful way.

So, here’s what to do.

• Know your key clients, their businesses and their other interests.

• Keep your email address book up to date with their addresses and those of significant contacts you make.

• Scan the e-newsletters quickly when you receive them with two goals in mind:

            • will any of this be useful for me in MY business

            • is there anything I could send to my key people that would help them. You could make a new email f older called “Clients-for them”. (Remember: networking and building relationships is first about giving.)

• Forward the entire newsletter if it’s appropriate

OR

• Copy and Paste the section that’s relevant

• Be sure to say in your cover letter why and how you think they can use this

Voilå! Instead of junk mail, you’ve:

• shared information (been a “giver”).

• got in front of your key contact (Remember: it takes 6 to 8 times for someone to buy).

• demonstrated that you understand your contact’s needs and are thinking of them.

Embrace technology and use it wisely and efficiently. Don’t let it overwhelm you.
